A private and exclusive hiking experience, designed for those who wish to discover Tenerife's volcanic landscape on foot with calm, interpretive depth, and the personalized attention of a professional local guide passionate about the island.
The itinerary runs along the trails of the Corona Forestal Natural Park around the Arenas Negras cone (setting of the historic 1706 eruption). It is a 5.8 km circular route with an elevation gain of barely 250 meters, classified as easy difficulty and suitable for anyone with basic physical fitness. Along the way, the greenery of the Canary Island pine contrasts continuously with the blankets of ash (picón) and black basaltic rock, offering expansive panoramic views toward Mount Teide and Pico Viejo.
Step-by-step itinerary:
From 10:00 to 11:00: Welcome and first steps. Reception of the group at the Arenas Negras Recreational Area. Presentation of the accredited official guide, introduction to the volcanic geology of the island's midlands, and guidelines for respecting the protected natural space. Start of the walk (first 2 km) under the shade of the Corona Forestal, where the guide interprets the endemic flora (Canary pine, tajinastes, and codesos) and its astonishing capacity to regenerate after fire.
From 11:00 to 12:30: Journey across the lava flows and viewpoint. The forest gives way to the Arenas Negras malpaís on a gentle climb that covers most of the 250 m elevation gain. A nearly lunar landscape where the historic 1706 eruption that buried the commercial port of Garachico is analyzed. Arrival and pause at an open panoramic viewpoint with direct views of the peaks of Mount Teide, Pico Viejo, and, weather permitting, the sea of clouds.
From 12:30 to 14:00: Volcanic wine tasting and return. A toast in the middle of a natural viewpoint with Canary wine aged in volcanic ash soils, served in wine glasses, while the guide explains the island's heroic viticulture and the mineral influence of the terrain on the grapes. Gentle descent back to the recreational area completing the circular route along an alternative trail, with free time for photos and final questions before concluding this 4-hour experience.
Do not miss this excellent, easy interpretive hiking route with views of Mount Teide and the Chinyero Volcano.
