Sport fishing in Tenerife: private charters

The deep waters off southern Tenerife are the territory of blue marlin, tuna and dorado, and you reach them within minutes of the coast. Here's what private sport-fishing charters are like, what you'll catch by season and what's included.

Updated 23 August 2026

A short distance from the south-west coast, the seabed drops to hundreds of metres: that's why Tenerife is one of the best spots in the Canaries for deep-sea fishing. Private charters hire the whole boat for your group, with skipper and gear, and take you out to the fishing grounds in minutes.

What you'll catch and when

  • Blue marlin: the star catch, mainly from May to October.
  • Tuna (yellowfin, bigeye, skipjack): much of the year.
  • Dorado and wahoo: more common in autumn.

Private boat charter

You hire the boat for your group, with skipper, rods and all the gear. You set the pace, and the skipper knows the best grounds. Ideal for groups of friends or families wanting a different day at sea.

Tip: most operate catch-and-release for protected species. Bring a cap, sunscreen and, if you get seasick easily, take something before you leave. Book ahead: these are private boats and the good dates go fast.

A private deep-sea fishing charter is a different way to experience Tenerife's sea. Choose the boat by group size and book early, especially in marlin season.
