Boat and sailing trips along Tenerife's south coast

Tenerife's south-west coast is best seen from the water: the Los Gigantes cliffs, swimming coves and cetaceans along the way. Here are the options — from a shared trip to a private yacht — and which one suits you.

Southern Tenerife is all about the sea: marinas in Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos, warm water almost all year and a cliff-lined coast that's stunning from below. A boat trip combines swimming, snorkelling and, with luck, pilot whales and dolphins. Here's how to do it.

Shared boat trip: the simplest

Half-day boat trips are the most affordable option: they cruise the coast, stop to swim in a cove and usually include food or drinks on board. Ideal for a first taste of Tenerife's sea without any fuss.

Sailing to the Los Gigantes cliffs

For something more special, a sailing boat takes you to the caves and the Los Gigantes cliffs — walls of basalt up to 600 m dropping sheer into the Atlantic. The quiet of sailing changes the whole experience.

Private yacht: on your own terms

If you're travelling as a group or planning a celebration, a private yacht with skipper lets you choose the route, the stops and the pace. Southern Tenerife's premium plan.

Tip: book a morning trip, when the sea is usually calmer and the wind hasn't picked up. Bring sunscreen, water and a light layer for the breeze on the way back.

Shared boat, sailing trip or private yacht: southern Tenerife is a different place from the water. Choose by budget and how much privacy you want, and book ahead in high season.
